The International Exposition of Photography at the San Diego County Fair is one of the oldest and largest juried photo print shows in the country. 2017 is its 71st year. Approximately 4500 images are entered in 32 categories and 1400 are hung. All images go through a two tier selection process. Judges are either professional photographers or educators in the photographic, digital, or fine arts fields.
I am so honored that my image “The Nomad Mother” won first place in the Documentary category. This image was taken in Feb 2016 near Dasada, Gujarat, India. It is of a Mir tribal woman and her newborn infant. I wandered to the back of the camp where these semi-nomads live and found this woman nursing her newborn infant. I spent a few minutes with her as she allowed me to photograph her.
